Finland’s largest hotel complex, which is owned and developed by Pontos’ portfolio company AVIA Real Estate and constructed in connection with the Helsinki Airport Terminal, has been completed and handed over to its operator Strawberry. The hotel opened its doors on June 1st. The 13-storey, over 700-room hotel has a direct inner connection to Terminal 2 and the train station. Construction work began in October 2021.

The new hotel complex will strengthen the area’s position as a hub for international travel and business, and it forms an important part of the airport city. Sustainability has been at the core of its design. A LEED Gold environmental certificate will be applied for the hotel, and the utilization rate of construction waste is over 75 percent.

“We are very proud of the hotel’s completion, which marks an important milestone. The AVIA Real Estate team has worked persistently towards the further development of the airport city. We are pleased that despite the delayed start of the project due to COVID-10 and crises across Europe, the hotel is completed and opens to customers on schedule. The project has entered a brand new phase by opening for business,” says Pontos’ Investment Director of Real Estate Päivi Tomula.

The hotel complex is the second largest investment, right after Terminal 2. The main designer of the project is architectural firm SARC, with Skanska as its building contractor. Strawberry, the operator, has 240 hotels in the Nordics and Baltics – in Finland, the company owns Kämp Group and operates Clarion hotels.
