Primary logistics center developed by Pontos and Nrep to be completed at Helsinki Airport

DHL’s new logistics terminal caters to the growing demand for fast deliveries in the Greater Helsinki area. Pontos and Nrep’s logistics center, located at a strategic location, has some of the most advanced technology in the express industry. The project has been executed in accordance with the owners’ principles of sustainable construction.

The logistics center is owned by Pontos and Nrep’s Nordic Strategy Fund III (NSF III) and will open in the immediate vicinity of the Helsinki Airport. The 16,000-square meter new construction project featuring cutting-edge technology will be completed in late summer with logistics company DHL Express as its operator.

AVIA Real Estate Oy was in charge of the development of the project until January 2025, when Pontos and Nrep acquired the project from the company as part of a larger ownership structure. The site is built by Meijou Oy and located on a leased plot owned by Finavia. The logistics center has a strategic location for DHL Express, which offers air freight services, as it provides a fast and efficient connection to the airport runway.

DHL Express has made significant investments in the technology and automation of the new logistic center. The automatic sorting system can process up to 6,500 packages in an hour, and 90 direct loading spots enable shipments to be directly transferred to delivery vehicles. All loading spots can be equipped with charging stations for electric vehicles, which supports the company’s sustainable development goals. Particular attention has been paid to the monitoring and security systems of the terminal, along with supporting technology.

Upon its completion, the logistics center will be the largest and most modern in the express industry in Finland, operating as DHL Express’ primary logistics center for services in the entire country.
“The new DHL Express logistics center at Helsinki Airport is an excellent example of a shared vision and great collaboration leading to impressive results. The project came to fruition through close collaboration with AVIA Real Estate, and we at Pontos are proud to continue our strong partnership with Nrep. Together we can develop the infrastructure in the Greater Helsinki area in a way that also considers sustainable ways of operating,” says Päivi Tomula, Pontos’ Investment Director of Real Estate.

The building has been installed with a geothermal heating system and solar panels to support the property’s energy efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint. The highest, Platinum-level LEED certification and the A energy efficiency class will be applied for the site.

“We are truly excited about the collaboration and completion of the new logistic center. It will create conditions for growth and help Finnish companies reach global markets. At the same time, it marks a significant investment in the well-being of our personnel and occupational safety. We want to continue to be one of Finland’s finest places to work – a place where technology and well-being go hand in hand,” says Oktay Nuri, Managing Director of DHL Express.
