Sokos Hotel Viru

Viru Hotel is a historical pioneer and one of the city’s most recognized landmarks right in the heart of Tallinn, next to the Old Town, a historical UNESCO World Heritage Site. The hotel is Estonia’s first high-rise building and a vibrant Tallinn city hotel where history and modern day meet. The 500-room Original Sokos Hotel Viru, located in downtown Tallinn, offers a spectacular sea view over rooftops and a diverse hotel room selection. The hotel has a direct inner connection to the shopping and city center Viru Keskus, which was almost fully renovated in 2023, right before Pontos sold its holdings to co-owner Kapitel.

Viru Hotel was the first Finnish real estate investment made in the Estonian markets after they were opened following the collapse of the Soviet Union, and it was carried out by Pontos’ founders. Upon its completion, the hotel was Estonia’s first high-rise building and a city landmark located centrally next to the Old Town – and a growing city center created demand for accommodation and retail services. Soon the hotel complex was expanded, among others, to Viru Keskus, which was located next to the hotel and would become Estonia’s most visited shopping center.

The building is owned by Pontos, but the Sokos Hotel brand operating the building also has over 45 hotels in Finland besides the one in Tallinn.

Sokos Hotel Viru’s total leasable area is 37,000 m². The hotel covers restaurants, cafés and bars, a spa, laundry facilities, a parking area and electric car charging points, along with meeting and conference premises of 11 different sizes for up to 1,200 people – the largest hall can accommodate events for 500 guests.
